Our new place in the paper

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod Quiñones -

We’re moving to a new location today and we hope that our readers would not have a hard time looking for Motorists’ Corner, which will now come out as part of the Business Section.

There have been some changes in the sections of The FREEMAN and we’ve decided to incorporate Transportation with Business as we also launched the Regions section last week.

So, from this day on, until further notice of course, Motorists’ Corner shall be in the Business section.  Sounds like an upgrade to business class when we ride our favorite airline.

The past many weeks have been spent on the traffic situation in the Banilad-Talamban area for the reason that thousands of people get stuck in the jam there everyday.

Traffic congestion definitely has a major effect on business and an obvious proof of such is Cebu City’s imposing a moratorium on development in that area affecting the Ciudad project of Capitol.

The Ciudad project doesn’t seem so grand from what we see now, but based on the perspective drawings that we’ve seen and the earlier reports, this will be something that would bring billions of pesos for the province.

We’d like to share with you this email from our good friend Glenn Lim about the traffic enforcers of Mandaue City.  This is one different from what we usually get.  So, here it is:

Hello Nimrod,

I would like to commend Mayor Jonas Cortes for his concern in the traffic situation in Mandaue City.

I still read some negative comments and complaints about Mandaue traffic so I couldn’t help but to send you mine.  Lately, I see a lot of yellow shirted traffic volunteers in lots of strategic corners manning the traffic.  I feel assured and a sense of relief  in knowing that our local government leaders are doing their jobs to make our citizens’ lives easier by dealing with traffic.  If we can’t have flyovers or interchange or wide roads, we can deal with the problem by having strict, effective and dedicated traffic enforcers.

I hope Mayor Jonas Cortes will continue maintaining and keeping the yellow-shirt volunteers in tip top shape for traffic enforcement in the years to come.

Do we have to say more?

We also received email from our regular correspondent Jesson Morata who aired his concerns about the immediate attention the General Aviation Road in Lapu-Lapu City needs.

Unfortunately our space is limited so we’ll have that next week.

We also got several complaints about the lack of CITOM enforcers in key areas.  Our sources say that the lack of enforcers is not only a problem of deployment, but a problem of hiring.

We hope that the city government can address this matter immediately.

Some readers complained that they can’t catch us at the office.  That’s true because we have different office hours unlike your usual work places.  You can still get in touch with us through 2531276 local 237 if you have comments, complaints or suggestions.

The best way to get in touch is however through email.  Send them to [email protected].
