A company called Total Transcription Solutions Inc. (TTSI) will soon roll out a pre-paid MT training tool via Internet Cafés in Cebu, and online gamers are seen to have huge potential to learn the MT skills.
Internet Café Association of Cebu (iCAC) president Felix Cogal Jr, said online gamers can slowly be converted as medical transcriptionists, as online exams are monitored, and those who perform better have great chances of getting hired automatically.
The prepaid MT training tool is designed to attract online gamers, as the concept is pro-active, thus, gamers can participate of the online exercises, as well as learning the modules, upon purchasing the prepaid software.
Most Internet Cafés right now have survived because of online games. This software is also seen to attract some gamers, who at the same time looking for employment.
The iCAC and TTSI is set to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) sometime this month or early May, to authorize interested iCAC members to offer this prepaid MT training software.
Cyber café operators may also invest in additional "foot pedals" or controls that will further enhance the tutorials.
Medical Transcription (MT) outsourcing service is the process of converting voice dictation (typically either cassette or digital forms) into a permanent written record utilizing word processing equipment and software.
Cogal bared that although a background in the medical profession is an advantage, now it is "not a necessary requirement" in the field.
"Based on the presentation, you only need to be well-versed in the English language, have a good typing speed and comprehension, even high school graduates are qualified to take the tutorial," he said.
This thing is good for the younger generation because it is both fun, since it follows an online game concept, is and educational. It also gives them a bigger chance to land a job, he added.
Because of skilled MT shortage in the Philippines, out of US$20 billion to US$25 billion market for MT in the United States, the Philippines has only utilized about .9 percent of the total potential.
MT is considered as one of the top four BPO priorities of the government, including contact/call centers, and others.
