Intel launches product that lowers PC upkeep

- Ehda Dagooc -
As the cost of maintenance in desktop personal computers (PCs) is contributing extra cost to users, Information Technology (IT) hardware manufacturer Intel Microelectronics Philippines, Inc. (IMP) has introduced a breakthrough product designed to lower PC repair expenses.

The introduction of Intel's vPro technology is seen to help companies and end-users to make PC ownership cheaper, which is estimated at 40 percent savings.

IMP country manager Ricardo Banaag said Intel's new vPro technology is a combination of hardware and software, designed to fully optimize business operations.

He said PC maintenance eats about 89 percent of IT spending of a company. Thus, Intel has decided to design a platform that would help businesses reduce cost, while increasing productivity.

Intel's vPro technology reduces PC maintenance cost by providing an integrated solution to almost all of the common and costly PC problems.

"Our vPro technology ensures better manageability, proactive security, and faster performance that are built-in in a single platform," Banaag said.

Common PC problems, such as security threats, cost of ownership, resource allocation, asset uptime and management, could be resolved by one technology, the vPro.

This integrated solution, works faster, as well as provides energy efficiency as it is powered with Intel Core 2 Dou processor that delivers up to 40 percent increase in both performance and energy efficiency.

Also vPro's remote manageability feature that allows PC to be checked by a network and management consul from other place even if the PC is turned off, he added.

According to Banaag, PCs with vPro technology also has an embedded virtual appliance that will detect and act as circuit breaker for viruses and direct the network management consul for remote fixing.

Intel's vPro technology, specifically, include the second generation of Intel Active Management Technology, Intel Virtualization Technology, the new Intel Q965 Express chipset and the Intel 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection.

These breakthrough features combined with industry-enabled software offer superior manageability and strengthened security to large and small businesses.
