Bucao couple creating a niche in the manpower supply sector

- Ferliza Contratista -
Perfect Clean General Services, though still on its 8th year, has already grown to be most reliable and "culturally sound" manpower service provider in the province.

Partner PCGS managers Talisay City Councilor Alan Bucao and wife Marietta Risma-Bucao admitted that the company has reinvented itself from its humble beginnings of only providing janitorial services in 1998.

They started with seven cleaners, now PCGS has over 500 personnel, now providing a variety of services aside from janitorial and housekeeping.

PCGS, according to the couple, now caters to hotel manpower staffing (waiters, busboys, dishwashers, cooks, helpers), office support services (telephone and radio operators, secretaries, clerks, computer encoders), high rise building cleaning, in-store support services (promo-merchandisers, baggers, postering commando), messengerial (bill-notice servers, inter-office document servers), aircraft cleaning and ground maintenance and landscaping services.

Very recently, PCGS, Bucao said made available the engineering department which includes providing of highly and semi skilled technical support services ranging from engineers, electricians, masons, welders, air condition and computer maintenance.

Bucao said his human resource management experience in San Miguel Beer Corporation for several years and his wife's expertise as finance head of then Cebu Plaza Hotel is a perfect combination in running the business.

"We never compromised quality with price, for one, we are choosy also with our clients as we only deal with those implementing the minimum wage law," Bucao said.

This, according to Bucao, sets PCGS apart from the rest of the several manpower services in the province and even in the whole country.

Other provisions of the Labor Code are also being closely followed.

Aside from the strict scrutiny that each applicant goes through, an intensive skill and value oriented training closely follows.

A quarterly report and evaluation is also made on the personnel by its direct supervisor and by the client to ensure that full performance level is maintained.

Since it started in 1998, PCGS already had several contented clients under its track such as San Miguel Corporation, Primary Structures, Filinvest Land Corporation and some national government agencies.

The past years were not all perfect as there were also instances when a company declared bankruptcy, living them a huge collectible amount.

PCGS, according to Bucao was also badly hit just lately when they were told to have won as the lowest bidder, prepared for the uniforms of all the supposed-to-be-detailed personnel, and only to learn that it had been awarded to another bidder, which happens to be the highest.

"That is our weakness perhaps, we don't go under the table transaction, we don't drive price at the expense of quality service and benefit of our employees," Bucao said.

"Kapamilya" is how they call each employee, even before the term is being used by a national television.

Each employee of PCGS, Bucao said has high self esteem as they offer several privileges and conveniences to prevent them from resorting to loan sharks.

"We have groceries and a revolving fund wherein it's interest is returned back to them during Christmas," Marietta said.

High-risk personnel are also covered with appropriate insurances.

For now, PCGS is the only manpower agency with a jingle that is sang by heart by all of its employees and carries the tagline "Quality is what we are."
