MANILA, Philippines — College of St. Benilde showed nerves of steal in the fifth and deciding set as it repulsed upset-conscious San Beda, 25-27, 25-19, 25-20, 26-28, 15-12, yesterday to get back on its feet in NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball at the Arellano U Gym.

The four-peat-seeking champions were still reeling from their first defeat in five years – a painful 25-22, 25-23, 26-24 loss to the Letran Lady Knights – and the Red Spikers were quick to pounce on it.

The Lady Blazers, however, displayed incredible grit when it mattered, including in the last set when they put on the finishing touches and sealed their fourth win in five outings.

Zam Nolasco paced the team with 22 points while Wielyn Estoque came off the bench to chip in 18 hits as they sent San Beda sputtering to 0-5.

In the other women’s game, Mapua downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 27-25, 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 15-10, to improve to 2-2. The Lady Generals stumbled to 1-3.
