MANILA, Philippines — Double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo expressed excitement on the possibility of him and his brother, Eldrew, competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Yulo, who won two gold medals in the Paris Olympics last year for vault and floor exercise, was named the Athlete of the Year in the annual Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards. In the same event, his brother received a special citation.

At the sidelines of the Awards, the 24-year-old Carlos acknowledged that the road to the Olympics will not be easy, but it is possible.

And dalawa kami na ire-represent ang Philippines,” he told reporters.

“Sobrang exciting, but at the same time, magiging challenging para sa aming dalawa. Hindi po madali ang process ng pagpasok doon but nagpe-pray po ako na makapag-qualify kaming dalawa and siyempre makapag-podium finish,” he added.

This was seconded by Eldrew, who said it is an “amazing dream.”

“Amazing dream. I will make it possible even though it seems impossible. I will make it possible. I will train hard,” the 16-year-old stressed.

“I’m gonna push myself through limits everyday, to become possible,” he added.

Carlos lauded his little brother, saying that he has improved a lot in training.

But for now, Eldrew is also eyeing the same success as his older brother.

“Of course, my brother, athlete of the year. Gusto ko rin yung ganung award, athlete of the year. I’m so proud of him always. You know I cried so much nung Olympics, that’s his dream and also my dream. So parang na-achieve niya rin ang dream ko, which is yung magka-gold siya,” he underscored.

“Proud of him, proud of all the athletes who won in the PSA. I’m so proud of all athletes and veteran athletes.”
