MANILA, Philippines — The PBA is abiding by the Games and Amusement Board’s ruling stripping NorthPort’s John Amores of his playing license.

“Magko-comply ang PBA. Utos ng gobyerno ‘yan and under naman tayo ng GAB,” said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

The STAR broke the news last Sunday that the GAB found Amores, who is facing an attempted homicide lawsuit over a shooting incident in Laguna, “guilty for conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player” and imposed the penalty of revocation of license.

This ruling effectively took away the 24-year-old Amores playing rights not only in the PBA but also in other leagues in the country sanctioned by the GAB.

Prior to the GAB ruling, the PBA has already slapped Amores with a one-conference suspension without pay for “violation of the Uniform Players Contract (UPC) of the PBA” and “conduct detrimental to the league.”

Marcial said upon receiving a copy of the GAB order, he made contact with Amores to discuss his situation.

“Sabi niya mag-a-appeal siya and that’s his prerogative,” said the PBA exec. “Inaayos rin naman daw niya ‘yung kaso niya.”
