Concio bags Asian blitz bronze

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino International Master Michael Concio, Jr. salvaged some measure of pride for the country as he snared the blitz bronze in the Asian Juniors Chess Championships at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay over the weekend.

Concio, 19, bested Indian IM Anto Cristiano Manish in the ninth and final round to end up solo third with seven points, the host nation’s best effort in the weeklong event after heartbreaking finishes in the rapid and standard events.
