Mapua gets past Arellano
MANILA, Philippines — Clint Escamis went from zero to hero as he helped power Mapua to a 77-71 victory over a stubborn Arellano University yesterday that kept them comfortably at second spot in NCAA Season 100 at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.
After missing all his eight shots from the field in the first three quarters, Escamis woke up just in time and unleashed a 12-point barrage in the final canto that helped save the day for the Cardinals.
It was Mapua’s sixth victory in eight outings, good for No. 2 spot while shoving them closer to No. 1 St. Benilde, which owns a 6-1 card. The Chiefs dropped to 2-6.
In the other game, Lyceum U relied on Neil Moralejo’s clutch triple as it rallied past University of Perpetual Help, 64-62, to catch the latter at No. 5 with an even 4-4 slate each.
