Honor of Kings receives warm welcome in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Launched globally last June 20, TiMi Studio Group and Tencent Games' Honor of Kings has seen over 50 million downloads across the globe during its first month alone and was part of the inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the start of this month.

In the Philippines, Honor of Kings had been number one in both in App Store and Google Play during its launch and had an all-Filipino team, Boom Esports, in the Esports World Cup Honor of Kings Invitational.

"We appreciate the very warm reception that we've been getting from the Filipino gaming community so far, especially those from non-Manila provinces/cities," said senior business development manager for Honor of Kings Philippines, Benj Dalmacio in an online interview with Philstar.com.

Though many of its recent face-to-face activities have been mostly in Metro Manila and Luzon, Dalmacio promises more events in the pipeline for players in Visayas and Mindanao.

"We are constantly on the lookout for partners who we can work with for community-initiated HOK events but at same time, we do have some upcoming events/tournaments that would cater specifically to our dear players in VisMin," he added.

And though it's only been three months since the game was finally made available globally, Honor of Kings vows more to come in the remainder of the year.

"Expect more activations and events for our players as well as more opportunities for aspiring teams as we ramp up our esports efforts," said Dalmacio.

The Philippine qualifier will kick off Friday, August 23, with the group stages lasting until September 1. Top squads such as Boom Esports, Oasis Gaming, Execration, Blacklist International, among others are set to compete for slots in the upcoming world championships happening in the fourth quarter this year.
