Go says Philippines athletes’ sacrifices bearing fruits

Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go expressed his profound admiration and support for Carlos Yulo in a co-sponsorship speech during the Senate Plenary Session on Wednesday.

Go reflected on the broader impact of Yulo’s achievements especially since the Philippines’ three Olympic gold medals happened during his stint as chairperson of the Senate Sports Committee. The first was in Tokyo 2021 courtesy of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.

“Kitang-kita na po natin na unti-unti nang nagbubunga ang mga pinagpaguran at pagsasakripisyo ng ating mga Pilipinong atleta sa iba’t ibang larangan ng sports,” Go said.

The senator’s commendation came as he co-sponsored a resolution to honor Yulo.

Even the leader of Southeast Asia’s most progressive nation was impressed with Yulo’s feat.

During his bilateral meeting with President Marcos yesterday at Malacañang, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam described Yulo as a “real milestone” for Southeast Asia.

“Mr. Yulo is the only athlete from Southeast Asia who has had two Olympic golds ever. So, it’s a real milestone. It’s a real milestone for all of us. I mean we shine a bit of the reflected glory of the Philippines,” he said.
