Valenzuela City opens new university
Valenzuela City’s quest for high-quality public tertiary education continues to advance by leaps and bounds as it officially opens the P361.6-million new Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (PLV) campus.
Built at a cost of P361.57 million, the 1.7-hectare modern campus situated at the bosom of the city comprises three Western Mediterranean-inspired buildings with a total floor area of 16,305.15 sqm.
The campus features high-tech amenities such as laboratories for engineering, information and communication technology, materials testing, fluid mechanics, chemistry, physics, and speech communication. It boasts of a university library with varied selections of reading materials, an audio-visual room, lecture rooms, and a student’s lounge.
Prior to the signing of Republic Act 10931, or the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act,” Valenzuela had already implemented full subsidy on tuition fee and miscellanous fees in its public tertiary institutions – the PLV and the Valenzuela City Polytechnic College.
A revolutionary project is the RFID-enabled PLV World card, which serves as the students’ pass to enter the campus. Once tapped, parents or guardians are notified through a text message whether they went in or out of the campus. The card also provides access to online university records, class schedules and university advisories. It also functions as a discount card.
A city-funded institution catering to over 5,000 students, PLV has evolved to become one of the country’s most modern and advanced tertiary institutions.
