We are one

A year ago, we created this space to hear your thoughts on issues that matter. Its vision was simple: to publish stories about issues millennials face or fight for, and let readers know that they, too, have a voice.

It was a crusade, as many young people are afraid to share their thoughts, let alone publish them in a national broadsheet, but realizing that their generation is a generation of fighters, and that they have a space where they can air their sentiments, they need no longer be afraid.

It has been a very fruitful year: we learned that the academe has much to say, and that they have their fair share of achievements and struggles. It is through Campus that schools bannered their pride, and students shared their stories of rising above the tides. This page has been a staple Tuesday reading feast: from student-written opinion pieces to campus features.

Through Campus, we have partnered with various schools and organizations to further our reach. We organized events and activities that enabled us to share inspiration to many millennial dreamers, such as the Inspire Congress. We also mounted several journalism events to create a deeper understanding of the profession.

Campus also initiated a retooling program for journalism and communication teachers. These are only some of the feats we have accomplished in just a year, and we are very excited for the new and exciting ventures to unfold this year.

We will be strengthening our PhilStar Boot Camp, the internship program we launched two years ago. We will be opening our applications for our fourth batch of rookie reporters this February, and we can’t wait to finally launch the new features of our month-long internship program soon.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, we are launching DigiTalino, a forum on digital media literacy where we tackle how we can combat the spread of fake news online. This is the first of our caravan, which will be touring cities this year.

Also this year, Campus will be opening its doors to more institutional partners, whom we can help in the areas of journalism and communication.

We still have big dreams and visions for the academe to further promote journalism, and with your overwhelmingly positive response, we know this will be possible.

For now, we savor the moment of celebrating our first year of existence. Thank you for taking this road with us.
