Gionee launches world’s ‘slimmest smartphone’

MANILA, Philippines - International mobile brand Gionee recently unveiled its first line of smartphones in the Philippines — dubbed as the world’s “slimmest smartphone.”

Light and thin, Gionee’s Elife S5.5 is packed with all the high-end hardware specifications and is equipped with an octa-core processor, all in an impressively thin 5.5-mm body.

“We have all the best hardware in such a slim phone and we use the best hardware brands in the world,” Oliver Sha, global marketing head of Gionee, said during the recent launch of the Elife S5.5.

Without giving up on substance and quality, this smartphone is made of 98 percent metal and glass, which makes it look delicate despite its durable construction. It also features a Super AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) screen, with the three capacitive touch screen.

The Elife S5.5 is surrounded with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance, said to be three times more durable compared to the second generation after tests showing decreased visible scratches by 40 percent and increased compressive strength by 50 percent. “We are the first company to create a full-glass and full-metal phone,” said Sha.

The Elife S5.5 sports an octa-core chipset at 1.7GHz, a processing power that was initially limited to bulky laptops. With such strength, this smartphone can play high-definition movies while simultaneously running high-end apps without any lags. Powered by a 2300 mAh battery, Elife S5.5 lasts longer than other smartphones.

For the ultimate selfie experience, it also boasts having the world’s first 95-degree, ultra-wide angled lens 5MP front camera, which comes with the sensor array, and a 13MP rear camera with LED flash. Even on autofocus function, the primary camera makes sure to capture images and videos with the sharpness and vibrancy similar to those images taken with a professional camera.

On top of that, the Elife S5.5 also has its own image and video editor for processing multimedia before uploading photos on social media.

This slim and sleek smartphone also is also equipped with Beauty Apps that serve as guides on how to live a healthy and fit lifestyle.

The Elife S5.5 is available in five colors — black, white, blue, pink, purple — matching consumers’ style and taste. It will be in stores starting this month at a retail price of P21,999.
