Nokia holds Asha Developer Day

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Nokia recently organized the New Nokia Asha Developer Day, an event where developers were given a preview of the business opportunities the Nokia Asha platform brings.

Sponsored by Globelabs, the event gave participants an introduction to the Nokia Software Platform, the Nokia Asha SDK — a suite of tools that help with development of Java apps on the Nokia Asha platform — and the new Nokia Asha user interface.

“Nokia provides developers the world’s largest monetization network, with mobile billing on 158 operators, 120 ad networks in over 200 countries,” said Norbert Aquende, developer manager of Nokia Philippines.

“Nokia Store has generated more than 3.4 billion cumulative downloads across mobile phone devices, including Asha. Two billion of these downloads were from last year alone,” he added.

Nokia continues to bring high-end design and innovation to lower price points, as evidenced by the recent launches of the Nokia Asha 210 and Nokia Asha 501 in the Philippines.

The entire Nokia Asha family now includes 19 devices on sale in 130-plus countries.

Nokia’s latest innovations — such as swipe and Fastlane — are part of a new family built on the next-generation Asha platform.

The Nokia Xpress browser also uses cloud technology to offer a faster, more affordable Internet, with up to 90 percent data compression.

Nokia mobile phones enjoy a broad consumer reach, with an installed base of more that 675 million devices. To date, more than 20 million Asha Touch units have been sold globally since its debut in June 2012.
