Starmobile unveils new line-up, flagship store

Aritha Zel Zalamea - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The smartphone, phablet, and tablet race is all about specs, and local manufacturers are not just sitting this one out. Starmobile, a Philippine company that makes Android smartphones and tablets, is taking the lead with its new range of products, which it unveiled during the opening of its flagship store in SM North EDSA Annex recently.

“At Starmobile, we believe in making great design and innovation available to everyone,” said Michael Chen, president of Starmobile. “Today, Starmobile is happy to welcome you to its first concept store in Manila where we proudly showcase and offer the strongest line-up of mobile devices at the best value possible, as we bring the world of Android to more and more Filipinos.”

Starmobile also launched its new Diamond and Engage line-ups at the event.

The Diamond V3, the 5.3-inch phablet, comes with a scratch-resistant Dragontrail glass touch screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, and 12MP rear and 2MP front cameras with Backside Illuminated (BSI) sensors.

Its big brother, the dual-SIM Diamond V7, also packs a quad-core processor. It has an 8MP front-facing camera, which begs you to guess just how high a resolution the rear shooter offers: a whopping 18MP, much greater than many flagship units in the market today.

Both models run on Android Jelly Bean. The V3 will be out sometime this month, while the V7 will be available in mid-July.

For regular TV viewers, the new Engage 7TV with the first-to-market innovation ALL TV access poses as an ideal mobile device. It comes with ISDB-T Digital TV for clear broadcasts of available local channel, but the tablet can also stream TV shows via Wi-Fi. The Engage 7TV is now available at P5,290.

There is also the updated entry-level Engage 7 tablet (P3,990) with Streaming TV, and 3MP rear and VGA front cameras.

The Engage 7 3G (P7,490) is the company’s first Android Ice Cream Sandwich-powered tablet with 3G capability and quad-band support.

For a larger screen real estate, Starmobile introduces the Engage 8 with a 4:3 XGA screen made of scratch-resistant Asahi glass. It also boasts of Streaming TV, and 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras.

Starmobile introduced its brand ambassador, Vice Ganda, who greeted members of the media and attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He also sold the first two units to lucky shoppers at the new concept store.
