LG bares upcoming Optimus 2X, Black

- Manny N. de los Reyes -

MANILA, Philippines - LG Electronics Philippines unveiled recently two new Android smartphones under its Optimus series.

First to arrive in the Philippine market is the LG Optimus 2X, which has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the world’s first dual-core smartphone.

Hot on the heels of the LG Optimus 2X is the LG Optimus Black, a trendy and sleek smartphone with the world’s brightest Nova display.

“Optimus,” which stands for “best” in Latin, is LG’s phone series comprised of devices running on the popular Android operating system.

The Optimus series, according to the company that is currently Formula One’s official global technology partner, is the result of an extensive consumer research and development that delved into the way average people gather information in today’s digital age.

“I’m confident that this year, LG will emerge as a leader in the next generation of smart devices,” said Richard Javier, Mobile Communication Division head of LG Electronics Philippines.

Aiming to aggressively take a leadership position in the smartphone market in 2011, LG has been earnestly bolstering its premium smartphone line-up, evident by its strong showing at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last January.

The LG Optimus 2X, aside from being the world’s first dual-core smartphone, also boasts a powerhouse NVIDIA Tegra 2 graphics processor.

With its dual-core processor, the LG Optimus 2X promises to run the phone at a clock speed of 1GHz, giving customers the browsing speed of a laptop or desktop computer in the palm of their hand.

It promises maximum mobile performance without the risk of draining battery life as the dual-core boasts low power consumption and high performance even while playing heavy video and audio files.

The LG Optimus 2X, aside from being the world’s first dual-core smartphone, also boasts a powerhouse NVIDIA Tegra 2 graphics processor.

The NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, meanwhile, makes for faster, smoother Web browsing and multi-tasking with virtually no screen lag.

The LG Optimus 2X offers 1080p video playback and recording and lets users enjoy viewing Full-HD content on a larger display via HDMI connectivity and play console-quality Tegra-optimized games with exceptionally responsive motion-sensing controls.

It also comes with a DLNA function that allows users to wirelessly share pictures, videos and other contents to any DLNA-capable devices.

The LG Optimus 2X also incorporates an 8-MP rear-facing camera and a 1.3-MP front-facing camera, allowing users to take clear pictures that can be viewed on its expansive four-inch WVGA LCD full-touch screen.

The LG Optimus 2X is powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, which is upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Users can enjoy nearly 150,000 apps through the Android Market.

Meanwhile, one of the world’s slimmest and lightest Android smartphones, LG Optimus Black, is already a hit, having recorded more than two million pre-orders in 20 countries since its January introduction at CES.

Apart from its incredibly slim body, the LG Optimus Black boasts of its brightest performance with a NOVA display that delivers optimal brightness and readability under any lighting conditions.

The crystal-clear display also provides a more natural Web-browsing experience by displaying truer whites while simultaneously cutting energy consumption by 50 percent compared to conventional LCD screens.

In addition, the LG Optimus Black includes a collection of smart features designed to improve the user experience, such as Gesture UI, Wi-Fi Direct and a 2MP front-facing and 5-MP rear-facing camera.
