Innove, Deutsche Telekoms ICSS sign Wi-Fi roaming agreement
June 24, 2006 | 12:00am
Innove Communications Inc. and Deutsche Telekoms International Carrier Sales and Solutions (ICSS) have reached a wireless broadband roaming agreement that enables visiting subscribers of Deutsche Telekoms service to roam and seamlessly connect onto any of GlobeQUESTs Wireless Internet Zones (WiZ) nationwide.
GlobeQUEST is the corporate business group of Innove.
"The partnership brings added convenience and flexibility to end-users of parties connected with Deutsche Telekom. Our roaming solution allows us to open up our WiZ Hotspots to the customers of other Wi-Fi service providers without them having to buy coupons or time online, as they are billed by their local Wi-Fi service providers in their own currency," said Jesus Romero, head of Innoves Enterprise Business Group.
Driven by the technology performance benefit, Wi-Fi is becoming the wireless Internet access medium of choice worldwide, and GlobeQUEST aims to be a successful leader in that evolution.
By opening its network to world-class roaming partners like Deutsche Telekom, Romero said GlobeQUEST can increase the ease of use of Wi-Fi for business travelers and professionals who will continue to build the demand for its services.
Having Innove on board Deutsche Telekoms Wi-Fi platform can give potential access to more than 30,000 hotspots worldwide.
Deutsche Telekoms Wi-Fi roaming subscribers from more than 40 countries can now roam into GlobeQUESTs WiZ when traveling to the Philippines. This also greatly benefits the end-users of ICSS Wi-Fi roaming partners as well as other providers who will connect to the solution in the future.
A Wi-Fi network can be used to connect computers to each other, to the Internet, and even to wired networks which use the 802.3 standard, otherwise known as Ethernet.
Wi-Fi networks operate in the unlicensed 2.4GHz and 5GHz radio bands with an 11Mbps (802.11b) or 54Mbps (802.11g) data rate or with products that contain both bands (dual band) so they can provide similar performance equivalent to the basic 10BaseT wired Ethernet networks.
GlobeQUEST provides Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) wireless and wired high-speed Internet access to mobile travelers in 275 WiZ Hotzones such as hotels, airports, malls, cafés and restaurants in 13 key cities and provinces nationwide.
Deutsche Telekoms ICSS unit is a full service provider, offering a complete range of wholesale solutions and services for mobile and fixed operators, and Internet service providers, which are looked after locally via a global sales network.
Deutsche Telekom is Europes largest telecommunications company and one of the leading carriers worldwide.
The basis for ICSS comprehensive service portfolio (voice and mobile solutions, IP solutions, transport solutions) is an expanding ultra-modern infrastructure Deutsche Telekoms international network.
