3Com taps Texas Instruments VoIP tech to power IP phones

Texas Instruments Inc. recently announced that 3Com Corp. has selected its TNETV1050 Internet Protocol (IP) phone system-on-a-chip for 3Coms next-generation enterprise IP phones.
TIs Voice over IP (VoIP) technology enables 3Com to create differentiated and innovative IP phones and expand its current portfolio into both the low- and high-end enterprise markets.
This latest announcement build upon the long-standing relationship between the two companies. 3Com and TI pioneered the IP PBX (private branch exchange) market with the use of TI digital signal processors (DSPs) in the first multi-line IP business phone launched in 1998. 3Com uses TI solutions to power its complete portfolio of IP phones.
TIs TNETVI050 offers 3Com a highly integrated VoIP solution and a comprehensive feature set with one of the industrys most robust acoustic echo cancellers.
TIs echo canceller is designed to cancel acoustic feedback between a loud speaker and a microphone in loud-speaker audio systems and voice-controlled systems.
Using TIs flexible silicon and software architecture, 3Com can also map additional functionality into its IP phones as the demand for a particular feature or application emerges.
Innovative 3Com IP phones also use TIs advanced Power-over-Ethernet technology to enable seamless delivery of power and data over a single, standard Ethernet cable.
"TIs high performance solution, coupled with an outstanding acoustic echo canceller, provides 3Com great value and differentiation for our IP phones," said Greg Zweig, 3Com senior product line manager.
"TIs technology inside our IP phones helps ensure that our customers will have a solution with superb sound that can grow and improve, as their business needs evolve. This has been a fundamental part of our plan for IP phones since 1998," Zweig added.
