Analyst firm cites Sony Ericsson for innovation in mobile gaming

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications announced that it has received from analyst firm Frost & Sullivan the Customer Education Innovation award for mobile gaming.

According to Frost & Sullivan, the award is presented to the company that has demonstrated excellence in customer education within its industry and has looked for long-term ways in developing the market and in creating awareness of and trust in new capabilities of mobile phones through innovative thinking and excellent implementation.

"The ability to download and pay for games over the air is a new capability, which the majority of the market is either unaware of or wary of. Sony Ericsson has, we believe, come up with a very innovative method of overcoming this. It was also the first company to look for a way of integrating mobile gaming with console gaming, as well as organizing events to promote playing games on handsets," said Jan Sythoff, an analyst of Frost & Sullivan.

The company was also recognized for its efforts in integrating mobile gaming with console gaming. By reaching certain levels of the game on the mobile phone, codes are released which can be used to play new levels and characters in the Playstation 2 version – an innovative feat that educates users and developers of the possibilities which mobile gaming offers.
