US President George Bush and Commerce Secretary Don Evans recently awarded the 2002 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for manufacturing to Motorola Inc.s Commercial, Government and Industrial Solutions Sector (CGISS).
The Baldrige Award is the premier US award for performance excellence and quality achievement.
Motorola CGISS is a leading provider of integrated communications and information solutions to meet the mission-critical requirements of public safety, government and business customers worldwide.
"We are enormously pleased and honored by this recognition of our business-wide, continuous improvement process," said Bob Barnett, Motorola executive vice president and CGISS president and chief executive officer.
"The assessment process provides an excellent opportunity to benchmark performance and identify opportunities to continue to do better. We hope our customers view this award as further evidence of our commitment to continuously improve the ways we serve them," he added.
The US Congress established the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, often described as "the standard of business excellence," in 1987 to promote quality awareness, recognize the quality achievements of organizations and publicize successful performance strategies.
Motorola was a recipient of the first Baldrige Award in 1988.
