SingTel taps Alcatel for VoIP services

PARIS – Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has selected Alcatel, a leading telecom infrastructure vendor, to optimize the Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities of its VoicePlus services.

VoicePlus is SingTel’s next-generation VoIP service targeted at resellers of international telephone services and mobile carriers in the Asia-Pacific.

Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel will provide its IPWay 9100 (Alcatel 5021 Advanced Routing Server), a full component of its VoIP Next Generation Network (NGN) solution, designed to provide powerful call control features, flexible policy-based routing functions and advanced digit manipulation.

User acceptance testing of the routing server has been completed, and commercial use begins this month.

"VoicePlus, with focus on quality and reliability, is an important service for SingTel because it enables us to enhance our packet-based technologies to deliver both traditional voice services as well as new value-added voice services," said Masagos Zulkifli, a senior director in SingTel’s International Carrier Services Group.

"Together with Alcatel and SingTel Aeradio, we hope to bring the service levels and capabilities of our VoicePlus service to a new level," added Zulkifli. SingTel Aeradio is the system integrator of the IP-based switch project.
