Negros village gets connected

DUMAGUETE CITY – In simple ceremonies, Smart Communications Inc. recently inaugurated its satellite-based Tawag Center in Barangay Bonawon, Siaton, Negros Oriental, providing the fishing community its very first telecommunications facility.

Located one-and-a-half hours by bus from this capital city, Barangay Bonawon is surrounded by a mountainous terrain, making it a radio dead spot.

Smart’s satellite-based Tawag Centers provide the perfect solution for areas with no GSM signal.

Using Smart Link’s fixed satellite terminals, they utilize the ACeS satellite system called the Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) system, the latest technology in telecommunication service that makes use of a satellite to transmit and receive communications from satellite mobile phones.

Bonawon is the biggest barangay in the municipality of Siaton. The Smart Tawag Center will service its 8,267 residents.
