PARIS Responding to customers need for scalability and versatility in evolving to tomorrows converged networks, Alcatel introduces the evolution of its flagship Alcatel 7670 Routing Switch Platform (RSP).
With this latest release, the Alcatel 7670 RSP outpaces the competition by delivering in-service scalability up to 450 Gb/s in addition to multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) and in support of low-speed multi-service data interfaces.
In only its first year of availability, more than 350 systems have already been installed worldwide.
Designed to meet the challenging technical and business environment facing carriers today, the Alcatel 7670 RSP offers significant service provider benefits: capex-optimized network growth, investment protection and profitable service delivery.
"Carriers need multi-service capabilities to migrate to unified networks using existing service revenues," said Jim Lawrence, Stratecast Partners program director for convergence strategies and network architecture.
"Gluing proven ATM to evolving MPLS is a key product strategy for network migration. The new release of the 7670 RSP represents a significant advance in terms of scalability and multiservice capabilities, and is well-positioned for multi-service carrier networks," he added.
The multi-protocol Alcatel 7670 RSP is designed for next-generation multi-service network core and edge applications. The fully managed end-to-end rapid provisioning of services via the Alcatel 5620 Network Manager further minimizes time to revenue.
"Service providers are looking for a highly scalable, multi-protocol platform that supports growing data services such as ATM, frame relay and private line, but on a converged architecture that also supports new applications such as IP-VPNs, voice mediation and wireless," said Lee Doyle, IDC vice president for network infrastructure.
