LTFRB halts road safety training for PUV drivers

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the implementation of the comprehensive road safety training program for public utility vehicle drivers and conductors.
The LTFRB decision, which was made public yesterday, comes in response to calls from the transport sector for further consultation.
Despite the LTFRB having conducted eight consultations to date, the agency acknowledged the need for more discussions to refine the framework of the program.
The transport regulator will hold a series of consultations with transport groups and industry stakeholders to address their concerns.
“We recognize the need for road safety measures, but we also acknowledge the concerns of our stakeholders. We will revise the policy to make it more inclusive, effective and practical for those who will be affected,” LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III said.
Guadiz assured the public that while the program’s implementation is on hold, the LTFRB remains committed to improving road safety standards and ensuring better service for commuters.
