The agency’s Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System revealed that out of the 14,553 people who figured in road crashes last year, 212 persons, including 22 pedestrians, lost their lives.

MANILA, Philippines — In 2018, a daily average of 40 people figured in road accidents in the metro, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The agency’s Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System revealed that out of the 14,553 people who figured in road crashes last year, 212 persons, including 22 pedestrians, lost their lives.

In a bid to stop the rising number of road fatalities in the country, a Filipina balikbayan invented a mobile application that acts as an alert system for both the pedestrians and motorists.

During the media launch recently held at the Blue Leaf Filipinas in Parañaque City, Debbie Anne Macariola-St. John, president and CEO of Djanco Information Technology Solutions, introduced the pedestrian safety app dubbed as Croxtec in the Philippines.

Powered by Google Map’s satellite imagery, Croxtec acts as a handy radar of some sort by providing real-time updates and early warning signals on the user’s immediate surroundings.

“It’s an app that acts as your armor as you travel the streets and cross the treacherous roads of Manila to reach your various destinations,” Macariola-St. John said.

When switched on using data connection, motorists will be notified through vibrate, tone, or voice, if there are any people crossing the street while pedestrians, on the other hand, will be alerted if there are any unsuspecting vehicles plying the road.

“It’s the app that sees the pedestrian before the driver does and vice versa. It emits an alert and detects incoming danger,” Macariola-St. John added.

In a release, Croxtec is described as the only mobile application to date that focuses on providing an early warning alert to both drivers and pedestrians while on the streets.

Croxtec is now available for free on Google Play and will soon be released on iOS.
