The Maserati Ghibli: A tech story

MANILA, Philippines — The new Ghibli sports sedan has been called by many as the best-selling vehicle in the history of Maserati, with over 70,000 cars delivered in 70 countries since 2013. True to its tradition, its latest iteration features a significant exterior restyling and a rich array of hi-tech contents.

It’s the “hi-tech” that made me fall for the Maserati Ghibli in the first place, aside from its swagger and road demeanor, of course.

On the outside, the Ghibli is perfectly sculpted with clean lines that instantly grab the attention of anyone, not just those who love cars. Its aggressive front radiator grille houses the Maserati trident while its rear twin tailpipes underline the car’s sporty and fun personality.

But when one steps inside the Maserati Ghibli, there is not much to see that one would not like, except for the low driver seat, maybe. The Maserati Design Centre in Turin has given a clear identity to each of the newly introduced trims, primarily by restyling the front and rear bumpers. These aerodynamically optimized changes accentuate the original’s sporty yet luxurious style. The aerodynamic efficiency of the new Ghibli has improved by 7 percent, which means a lot when one is driving down the expressways.

But it is the tech features that make the Ghibli truly unique for me.

For starters, there is the new Ghibli Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC), which helps prevent vehicle instability, providing enhanced active safety, improved driving dynamics and an even more thrilling performance.

It makes driving truly safe. Of course, I cannot say enough about how safe the Maserati body is with its muscle build, which makes it a joy to drive at top speeds.

Then there is the Electric Power Steering (EPS) – another first for Maserati. This improves the car’s handling and comfort while retaining the classically Maserati razor-sharp steering feels.

For me and for most drivers, safety is a must. Inside the cockpit of the Ghibli, one feels this – and how.

In addition to the existing features, they now include active functions like Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR, based on Mobileye technology).

Faithful to its DNA, the new Ghibli range offers unmistakable class, top-quality performance and a stylish yet comfortable driving experience.

Let me just add that I was in love with the push start-and-stop button, which made the driving experience more techie for me. Also, it made me less likely to lose the key, which stayed in my pocket the whole time.

There was much driving for me with the Maserati Ghibli – all fun and lots to talk about how lovely a car it truly is.
