Globe cited among top 5 Asian telecom service providers

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom is the only Philippine telecommunications company to be recognized as one of the top 5 Asian telecom service providers for the company’s business foresight in the Telecom Service Provider Innovation (TSPI) Awards organized by the International Data Corp. (IDC), the premier global provider of market intelligence for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets.

Globe joins Bharti Airtel, Hong Kong Broadband, NTT Comms, and SingTel in the roster of the best telecom companies in the region, which were selected from over 100 nominations by a panel of independent industry practitioners, IDC Asia-Pacific Telecom and 4 Pillars’ Practice Leads based on the following key criteria: effectiveness of implementations, angle of “innovation,” business advantages, impact on customers, market take-up, and response to market needs.

Globe was awarded the Most Innovative xCommerce Enabler Award for GCASH American Express Virtual Pay (AMEX), a prepaid virtual card connected to a user’s GCASH mobile wallet that lets the user shop online conveniently from both local and international sites that accept AMEX as mode of payment.

This unique product also allows users to enjoy worry-free payment system through a security code feature. Customers are also provided with a personalized US address where packages can be delivered right away at a lower cost with flexible shipping options depending on the customers’ needs.

“We thank the IDC Asia-Pacific for this wonderful citation to be put at par with some of the world’s leading telecom companies. We offer this recognition to our customers for their relentless support to Globe over the years and for making our services part of their lives. This further inspires us to offer our subscribers more innovations like the GCASH AMEX in the future,” said Jesus Romero, Globe senior vice president for eGovernment, who received the award on behalf of Globe.

“The telecom market is undergoing major transformation. IDC believes that the telecom service provider of the future in 2020 will be radically different compared to what it is today,” said Adrian Dominic Ho, principal analyst for mobility lead of IDC Asia-Pacific.

“These awards recognize telcos who are at the forefront of this transformation and are industry gold standards for the rest of the industry,” Ho added.

The TSPI Awards was established to assess how well-prepared the region’s telecom service providers are in competing and leading the future service provider marketplace and recognize how they have leveraged innovation to achieve specific business objectives, including driving competitive differentiation, launch new products and services, and gain access to new markets and segments.
