Globe Labs ties up with Google Developers Group

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Labs, the dynamic and innovative developer community of Globe Telecom, has partnered with the Google Developers Group (GDG) in the Philippines on the holding of a nationwide DevFest consisting of eight community-organized events.

At least 1,000 developers and students interested to learn about Google technologies and products are expected in these events.

“This year’s DevFest is special because it is the first time that GDG is holding eight of them all over the country. And being a strong supporter of shared community approach through open source technology, we believe that we can help developers hone their IT skills by participating in the GDG DevFests,” said Anne Michelle Santos, developer relations manager of Globe Labs.

Globe Telecom, through Globe Labs, has been working with GDG on various initiatives. Early this year, Globe Labs and GDG Philippines organized the DevFest Women (DevFestW) Philippines for women in technology. In 2012, Globe also brought the DevFests to Cebu and Bacolod.

This time, after the Manila leg kicked off in September, it was followed immediately by Cagayan de Oro — the first in Mindanao — and then Bacolod.

GDG is also holding the DevFests in Cebu, Zamboanga and Davao this month, and in Baguio and the Cordilleras in the following months.

GDG DevFest is a community-led event that has technical and non-technical sessions centered around Google developer technologies and platforms.

It is geared towards Web and mobile developers who want to build applications using Google technologies, members of the academe who need to learn how to use Google Apps for online collaboration and global classrooms, and business owners and content publishers who want to boost website traffic and have effective online marketing.

For the eight DevFests, GDG Philippines has invited local experts on Google technologies, as well as Googlers to talk and interact with the developers attending the event.

Topics range from the importance of innovation especially for emerging markets, building a culture of technopreneurship in the Philippines, developing mobile apps for the global market using Google technologies such as YouTube API, Google App Engine, Google Drive Realtime API, Google Maps API, and Google+ API, among others.
