MANILA, Philippines - Committed to its goal of enhancing lives through technology, Polaroid Philippines partnered with Blended Learning Services (BLeS) Inc. for the Knowledge on Tap Program (KTap).
Held last Sept. 17, the KTap program marked the launch of the Reading Enrichment Program at the Lupang Pangako Elementary School in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City, which aims to enhance learning among Grade 1 to 4 students through current technologies.
The KTap program aims to strengthen the Department of Education’s existing reading intervention programs, which promote the use of appropriate modern learning aids, in addition to traditional learning methodologies.
During the event, three Polaroid Elixir 10 (SRP P10,995) tablet PCs, among Polaroid’s newest and most acclaimed tablet innovations to date, were donated to the Lupang Pangako Elementary School through RedDot Philippines.
Child actress Andrea Brillantes, spokesperson for Polaroid, graced the event to impart to the students how she balances her career with school. She is currently in fifth grade and effectively juggles her school and work obligations with the help of blended learning and her Polaroid tablet, which she always brings with her for easy review of lessons and homework.
The Wi-Fi-enabled, Android-based tablet packs a long-lasting 6600mAh battery plus a 1.6GHZ Intel Atom Z2460 processor that renders an energy-efficient, power-packed and speedy performance. The Intel processor also hastens Web loading time — up to 50 percent faster than other tablets within the same range — and yields unparalleled graphic performance.
Also pre-installed in the Elixir 10 is the Intel Education Software (IER), a suite of educational applications that allows teachers to facilitate classes and learning aids more efficiently through real-time access to a separate teacher’s PC and students’ devices, as well as monitoring and delivering lessons.
Students, on the other hand, will benefit from curated applications carefully selected by BleS which are geared toward promoting efficiency in vocabulary building, visual tracking, fluency and above all, retention and comprehension.
Included in the list of BLeS-selected apps are “3 Little Pigs,†which targets reading comprehension; “Word Attack,†an app for vocabulary building; and “Flash Card,†an app that’s instructor-customizable during class recitations.
Coupled with a 1GB RAM and receptive touch screen that delivers high-definition visuals, the Elixir 10 is an excellent tool for educational videos and class presentations. To enhance learning, the device can also be connected to speakers through a 3.5-mm audio jack at the side panel or to a larger display board through the mini-HDMI.
Up to 32GB worth of class files and other documents can be easily be stored via a micro USB card.
“We are positive that the KTap Program will help not only our beloved teachers in imparting quality education, but will also boost the students’ interest in learning and their competence in current technologies. Through this joint effort, we hope that we can instill in school children a love for reading that they can carry through to the next level of learning,†said Polaroid VP for sales Andrew Chong.
