Mindanao gets better multimedia experience via PLDT Group’s ‘Jump’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With multimedia services like video and music on cellphones and tablets fast gaining popularity, telecom leader PLDT and its subsidiaries Smart Communications Inc. and Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc. (which owns the Sun Cellular brand) have set up in Davao City a new a type of store to help people learn how to enjoy these innovative data.

Called the Jump Experience Center (Jump), the store is located at SM Lanang Premier. The facility is the first of its kind in Mindanao and will be a center for innovation, convergence and connectivity.

Jump will showcase a technology lifestyle hub housing the group’s latest services and life innovations for individuals, homes and enterprises.

“The PLDT Group considers the Mindanao market key to its strategy of maintaining market leadership,” said Perry Bayani, head of Smart’s Retail and Corporate Sales Group.

“We have a lot of confidence in this region and we believe our group’s combined technologies and the best of our services can further spur economic activities, promote tourism and livelihood and strengthen the human capital. Jump Experience Center is the perfect, all-in-one hub to showcase all the innovations plus network and service improvements we are undertaking for the benefit of Mindanao,” he added.

More than being a retail outlet, Jump adds value to the consumer experience by exposing visitors with the latest technological advancements, innovative devices, and life-changing services through first-hand experiential demonstrations and assistance of in-house tech experts.

“The launch of Jump in Davao City comes at a time when the PLDT Group is aggressively leveling up digital convergence in this age of

connectivity and multimedia creation and distribution,” said Bayani.

“With the onset of the multi-screen revolution, we are best positioned to deliver content via desktops, televisions, tablets or smartphones. The future is in the convergence of all these screens, and Jump is the best place to experience all these today,” he added.

Jump showcases the combined technological strength of PLDT, Smart, Sun and Mediaquest, translated into clear consumer benefits that can enrich the lives of its clients. For instance, PLDT’s network of 71,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables, the most extensive fiber optic network in the country, is represented by PLDT’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and Smart’s 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services that enable the fastest data services for a richer multimedia experience.

Jump also highlights the unmatched interconnectivity of the PLDT Group’s brands and services. Just recently, Smart has launched Smart Music which will allow more than 70 million mobile subscribers of the

PLDT Group to download from a collection of over three million songs, payable through their prepaid load or chargeable to postpaid bill.

Mediaquest’ satellite TV service provider Cignal has also launched Cignal TV-To-Go, a service that enables subscribers to watch real-time feeds of Cignal channels on their Smart-powered smartphones or tablets.

PLDT also recently upgraded its landline and tablet hybrid TelPad with enhanced features and multimedia services that will enable users to access not only voice and broadband but also music, games and movies — contents which can be pulled from Smart Music and Mediaquest.

“Jump is a representation of what our future homes, businesses and personal devices will look like and how they will work — everything is interconnected, and accessible via interactive screens,” said Ma.

Cecilia Aquino, who heads Jump Experience Center operations nationwide.

“We are not just selling products in Jump. We are offering a whole experience of the fully connected and digital life, through the converged services of PLDT, Smart, Sun Cellular and Cignal. Soon, more innovations from sister companies will also be offered in the Jump Experience Center,” said Aquino.

“Multimedia convergence has always been in the PLDT roadmap. We have long anticipated the explosion of data-intensive, mobile content distribution. That is why we have made the necessary investments in our infrastructure, networks and our organization,” Bayani said.

The first Jump Experience Center was launched at SM Megamall in Ortigas Center, Pasig City in 2011. Last year, a second Jump Center was opened in SM Cebu City.

Jump Davao is open during mall hours and welcomes everyone who wants to experience and know about the converged digital lifestyle. For more information, join the official Facebook page at facebook.com/JumpExperienceCenter or follow @Jump_Center on Twitter and jumpcenter on Instagram.
