HP sponsors Universal Pictures' 3-D CG film 'Dr. Seuss' The Lorax'

-

MANILA, Philippines - HP announced its sponsorship of the release of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s 3-D CG (computer graphics) feature, “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax,” which opened nationwide last March 2.

In tandem with Universal Partnerships and Licensing (UP&L) in support of the film, HP is launching a series of educational programs to connect its long-standing leadership in environmental sustainability with its commitment to education.

“The theme of responsible consumption is a priority throughout HP and spreading the message of ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax’ is something we are passionate about,” said Armando Pascual, country general manager of HP Philippines’ Imaging and Printing Group.

“‘The Lorax’ is not only an inspired tale told by one of the world’s most beloved children’s authors, it is also an ecological challenge that rings true in today’s time,” Pascual said.

‘Every Inkling Makes a Difference’

HP is working with Universal Pictures and global book publishing company Scholastic to create a fun and interactive science-based educational program focused on sustainability.

The program, “Every Inkling Makes a Difference,” is designed to help teachers discuss environmental issues with their students and learn about actions that families can take toward sustainability.

The curriculum is customized for elementary and middle school classrooms and is now available to public, private and home-school organizations via Scholastic’s distribution network. It also is accessible online at www.scholastic.com/thelorax.

Parents and teachers are encouraged to read the book “The Lorax” and see the movie with their students or children, then log on to the Scholastic microsite to join the “Every Inkling Makes a Difference” story contest.

Parents and teachers can help students submit a story describing a creative new idea on how they or their communities could live more sustainably.

Prizes for this contest are designed to further the educational future of winners, including a $10,000 college scholarship from HP.

More sustainable printing

HP empowers consumers to “Print Like The Lorax” — a reference to making more sustainable choices when printing.

The company is now offering videos and educational content with practical tips on selecting printing products designed with the environment in mind, choosing papers certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and recycling used cartridges through the HP Planet Partners program.

The company encourages customers to print responsibly through its commitment to responsible forestry programs, recycling innovations and commitment to energy efficiency.

HP sets the precedent for people to “Print Like The Lorax” in the following ways:

• Expanding the use of recycled plastics in its cartridge manufacturing process, which has already produced more than two billion cartridges made from recycled plastic.

• Leading the market in the use of recycled content in imaging and printing products, as evidenced by using more than 100 million pounds of recycled plastic in HP printing products since 2007.

• Committing to offer at least 50 percent of HP-branded paper as either FSC-certified or containing more than 30 percent post-consumer content by the end of 2013.

• Joining the FSC as a member to promote responsible forestry practices around the globe.

• Joining the World Wildlife Fund’s Global Forest and Trade Network in 2009, making a commitment to protect forests and extending that commitment in 2012 by supporting WWF’s efforts to conserve mangrove forests in Indonesia and protect the proboscis monkey, an endangered species.

• Surpassing its goal to improve the overall energy efficiency of printing products. HP improved the overall energy efficiency of its ink and laser printing products by 46 percent from 2005 to 2011, exceeding its original goal of 40 percent.
