Microsoft promotes best IT practices

MANILA, Philippines - Microsoft Philippines recently gathered all Philippine-based developers and IT professionals in this year’s WHO DUNN I.T., an event which seeks to promote the talents and skills of local developers in the IT community.

With the theme, “Best Practices. Innovation. See How Professionals do I.T.,” WHO DUNN I.T. offers talented developers and professionals in the country a chance to share and exchange their best IT knowledge, practices and solutions using Microsoft technology.

“Filipinos are talented and skilled when it comes to developing programs, and through this event, we are giving them a chance to express themselves and share some of the best IT practices in the Philippines so that other people may learn from their experiences,” said John Bessey, managing director of Microsoft Philippines. 

Prior to the event, IT professionals and developers were encouraged to share their stories regarding the IT solutions that they have developed and how these programs built using Microsoft technology have enabled companies to become progressive and operate more efficiently.

“With the IT professionals from different industries gathered in one place to inspire others of their developed solutions, the IT community can grow into one strong nation of innovative leaders. Developers play a big role in enhancing business operations and the solutions they create can help heighten business processes,” said Arup Maity, president and CEO of BlastAsia, Inc., a company specializing in Outsourced Product Engineering services.

BlastAsia surpassed its challenges as a company with the help of Windows Azure. “In deploying our business transactions on Windows Azure using Silverlight technology, we were able to overcome the challenges we experienced to efficiently deliver customer needs, application development and deployment, as well as provide innovative and intuitive user experience,” Maity said.

Among those present in the event were Jojo Ayson, engineering manager for security of SeaChange International; Microsoft Partner DB Wizards; and Team by Implication, which won first place in the Game Design category in the 2010 Imagine Cup competition.

These are some of the IT icons, who will be featured in the Comic Book, which will be given out in February. Featured stories also include some of the submitted works of the participants as well as their experiences in using Microsoft technology in everyday life.

“Developers are vital as more and more people look to IT in addressing their operational challenges. Through this event, we are making more people realize the importance of the local IT talents and skilled developers, who are vital in creating programs and solutions that aid businesses to have cost-effective and productive operations,” said Bessey.

Dressed as The Baroness, Alodia Gosiengfiao, the “Cosplay Queen” of the Philippines, together with Tim Vergel de Dios, academic developer evangelist of Microsoft Philippines, donned as Cobra Commander, hosted the event and encouraged camaraderie among the attendees as people shared their own stories and experiences using Microsoft technology as a benefit in creating world-class solutions.
