MANILA, Philippines - As production firms around the world turn to technologies designed to conserve the environment, consumers now seek out products that have a minimal impact on the environment.
Products used on a regular basis should use energy efficiently, keeping power use to an optimum.
These products are considered to be “green,” or environment-friendly, and are now preferred over conventional products with outdated technologies.
Among companies that have actively pursued the production of green consumer goods is Panasonic. Long before environment-friendly products became the norm in the market, it has already been producing consumer goods that comply with requirements on reduced energy consumption.
Television sets are among consumer products that have been the focus of environment-friendly technologies. Since many households use their TV sets for hours during the day, it is preferable that TV sets have reduced energy consumption coupled with technologies that keep them environment-friendly when recycled or disposed of at the end of their terms.
Panasonic is the world’s first company to offer lead-free plasma display panels for use in its Viera line of plasma TV sets. It invested in an advanced technology that replaces lead oxide glass products with a display that is less detrimental to the environment. When regular TV sets are disposed, the lead and traces of mercury in standard display units leach into the environment and cause harm.
All plasma TV sets in Panasonic’s Viera line of televisions are certified to be free from mercury and lead. By redesigning the cell structure of plasma displays, Panasonic has achieved four times luminous efficiency for a brighter viewing experience.
The use of new high-density phosphors and a new dynamic black layer in the plasma displays results in the production of xenon gas, an inert element that results in high luminous efficiency. As consumers get stunningly beautiful images during viewing, the technology used is energy-efficient and reduces power consumption by more than 35 percent.
A unique feature of Viera plasma display panels is that they perform longer than conventional TV sets. A plasma display can be used for over 30 years before its quality lessens.
The technology used in creating these units is based on a newly designed phosphor process and rear panel process that give the plasma panel up to 100,000 hours of use. This is more than 30 years of viewing when watched eight hours a day, before the brightness of the panel decreases to half.
Apart from its reduced impact to the environment, Panasonic’s plasma display panels under the Viera line are also healthier. Eye fatigue is lessened in both children and adults, so that they can watch TV in comfort even when viewing for relatively long periods of time.
In a plasma TV, each pixel lights up on the display, and the lighting intensity is adjusted according to the demands of a scene. Because of this, the images are not too bright to strain the eyes.
Panasonic has been producing lead-free and mercury-free plasma display panels since 2006. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental protection and conservation.
