MANILA, Philippines - Acer Philippines recently announced a new line of netbooks based on Intel’s new mobile dual-core Intel Atom processors.
The two new lines of netbooks — the Acer One D255 and the Acer Aspire One Happy — offer new designs and specifications designed to appeal to a wide range of Filipino netbook users.
The Acer One D255, which sports a stunning design and promises eight-hour battery power, comes in coffee, ruby red, diamond black, aquamarine, and seashell white.
Powered by Intel’s Atom dual-core N550 (1MB L2 cache, 1.50GHz, DDR3 667MHz, 8.5W) processor and a 1G DDR3 memory chip, the Aspire One D255 also comes with a Mobile Intel NM10 Express Chipset for that processing muscle rarely seen in netbooks.
Its screen is a 1.1-inch SD 1024 x 600 (WSVGA) pixel resolution, high-brightness, LED-backlit TFT LCD screen driven by an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 with 64MB of dedicated system memory.
The Aspire One D255 boasts a 250GB SATA hard drive, Acer InviLink Nplify 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, and an Acer CrystalEye webcam with high 1280 x 1024 resolution.
The Acer Aspire One Happy, which carries almost the same specs as the Aspire One D255, comes in “happy” pastel-hued colors such as Hawaii blue, lime green, candy pink, and lavender purple.
Acer designed it to be the perfect digital accessory for young, fashionable people who are highly mobile and constantly connected with their social network.
“Acer is committed to empower the new breed of PC users in the Philippines and improve their Internet and computing experience, whether it be in the home, in school, at work or on the go,” said Manuel Wong, general manager of Acer Philippines.
“The launch of our new line of netbooks is testament to our success in delivering new product innovations ahead of the market,” he added.
The dual-core Intel Atom processor N550 enables new levels of support for applications like games, as well as Adobe Flash technology for access to some of the country’s most visited Web pages, including online air ticket booking systems and multimedia sites such as YouTube.
With these added functionalities, consumers can enjoy Internet access on the go with a more responsive experience in the same compact form factor, DDR3 memory support and similar great battery life as the single-core Intel Atom processor N450.
“Since earning the Cyberpress’ distinction as the Newsmaker of the Year in 2008, netbooks have continued to grow in popularity among Filipinos,” said Ricky Banaag, country manager of Intel Microelectronics Philippines.
“With the introduction of the new dual-core Atom processor, consumers now have more choices of designs and specifications than ever before,” Banaag said.
Intel shipped about 70 million Intel Atom chips for netbooks since the company launched the category in 2008, signifying that the market for these devices continues to grow worldwide.
