MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ Episcopal Commission on Youth (CBCP-ECY) and Youth Pinoy, a Catholic youth organization, have launched youthpinoy.com, a website for young Catholics. With luck, Pope Benedict himself may join the chat rooms.
Youth Pinoy president Eilleen Esteban said the organization has members from 86 dioceses in the country.
The website is an online forum to proclaim the gospel to young Catholics in the country.
“We are the youth of the Catholic Church, strengthened, unified and commissioned to become the online missionaries as our faith embraces the generation of the digital media... Heeding the call of the Holy Father, Youthpinoy declares to become an active catalyst of change in the society using the Internet as a means of spreading the Word,” Esteban said.
Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon, CBCP-ECY chairman, said they are trying to get the Pontiff himself to join the chat rooms or just post messages.
“Our dream is to be able to invite the Holy Father himself to our portal. We hope to chat with him or interview him, or at least give a message to show that the Filipinos have fulfilled his dream through Youth Pinoy which is to reach out to the youth through the portal,” Baylon said. — Evelyn Macairan
