Qosmio F60: Toshiba's new entertainment powerhouse

- Manny N. de los Reyes -

MANILA, Philippines - Tricom, exclusive distributor of Toshiba notebook computers in the Philippines, and Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division (CSD), a division of Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd., recently announced their new and advanced entertainment machine, the Qosmio F60.

Comprehensively redesigned to deliver a true high-definition experience in a package that’s even slimmer and more stylish than before, the new Qosmio F60 is Toshiba’s smartest and best-looking mobile entertainer yet.

Cementing Qosmio as the leading entertainment notebook PC, the new machine comes with Intel’s new Core i5 and i3 processors, a high-definition LED-backlit screen, a multi-touch touch pad with gesture support, NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor, Blu-ray Disc 6x Rewriteable Drive, Toshiba Resolution+ and integrated Harman-Kardon speakers for the ultimate in mobile multimedia entertainment.

The Qosmio F60 comes wrapped in a beautiful brilliant red cover, stylish gray interior and a speaker grille that runs just above its keyboard.

Slim and sleek

“Slim design is no longer the exclusive domain of ultra-portable laptops — it is now available in entertainment-class notebook PCs, too,” said Wong Wai Meng, senior manager for product marketing of Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division.

“Not only does the Qosmio F60 pack a punch with its powerful multimedia features, it’s also surprisingly slim and sleek at just 29.1 mm at its thinnest point, and weighs only 2.7 kg,” she added.

The Qosmio F60 stands out from the crowd, not only in its design but also in its performance, thanks to its brilliant 15.6’’ Clear SuperView HD display with LED backlighting powered by NVIDIA GeForce GT330M graphics processor with 1GB VRAM.

Movie fans can enjoy their favorite HD movie with a Blu-ray Disc rewritable drive that also supports DVD media or a DVD-SuperMulti +-R DL. Audiophiles, meanwhile, will love its high-end Harman-Kardon stereo speakers providing vibrant audio.

Resolution+

Resolution+ is a super-resolution algorithm developed by Toshiba to upconvert videos and content in general with standard-definition quality to near-high-definition levels, regardless of whether the video/content comes from a DVD in the DVD-SuperMulti drive or Blu-ray Disc rewritable drive.

Unlike conventional upconversion processes that simply upscale the image, Resolution+ downscales the upconverted image for comparison with the original one, and improves and enhances image quality before upscaling again to near-HD quality.

The Qosmio F60 is also designed with usability in mind. It sports a comfortable full keyboard with a numeric 10-key pad and backlit feather-touch buttons that offer instant access to often-used features such as playback and volume controls, mute, wireless LAN on/off, and Power Saving Eco Utility. It even includes a user-programmable shortcut.

An intuitive Multi TouchPad with Gesture Support enables greater flexibility to browse and control what’s happening on-screen with gesture commands such as two-finger pinch, swipe, rotate and scroll.

For quick and convenient log-in, the Qosmio F60 comes with SmartFace Face Recognition software, while Toshiba ConfigFree utility facilitates wireless network configuration and online access via the embedded WLAN interface or via Bluetooth.

Unique applications

The Qosmio F60 also includes unique applications designed to increase personal productivity in a unique way. These include Toshiba Bulletin Board, which gives users fast access to day-to-day activities, tasks and projects in a simple and visual way.

Bulletin Board makes organizing disparately stored files easier with the ability to drag and drop links, documents, photos, videos and applications into one place. Customize and organize the board by moving, rotating and resizing using gestures to fit personalized style.

Bulletin Board also includes several built-in gadgets such as labels, calendars, a clock, and a to-do list.

Toshiba ReelTime, meanwhile, helps users easily and quickly find files based on when they were opened with a simple visual history. With the flick of a finger, users can quickly scroll through automatically generated previews of documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more, filter by file type or use the calendar to go back weeks or months.
