PLDT SME Nation offers Internet-connected monitoring device

-

PLDT SME Nation, the foremost business solutions arm of small- and medium-scale enterprises, has launched an Internet-connected video monitoring device to help employers better keep watch on their businesses.

The new device, aptly called PLDT Watcher, is an IP camera and bundled viewing software that makes it possible for business owners to see their establishments wherever they may be — here in the Philippines or even abroad.

“You can be in Argentina and still know what your employees are doing,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde, PLDT SME Nation vice president and head. “This is a good way for business owners to keep an eye on what’s really happening in the office.”

Solution for common problems

According to HR expert Chrisma Bangaoil and security expert Jason Asuncion, the common problems that employers face are pilferage and a laggard or abusive staff.

“These illegal activities result in your losing so much money,” said Bangaoil at the press conference. “So what options do you have? You can either get additional supervisors or guards. Whatever you think the solution is, it will also cost you a lot.”

Christian Lim, assistant product manager, said, “The PLDT Watcher is a cost-efficient way to protect your business from insider’s theft. You protect your business, you protect your profit.”

The Watcher

PLDT Watcher is easily connected through a laptop by DSL or even a 3G phone. This insightful solution uses proven technology together with the most robust PLDT network and makes it a winning combination.

Using IP cameras, motion detectors and reliable software, it gives the user remote viewing capabilities through any computer or 3G phone; snapshots and auto-recorded videos directly sent by e-mail; and a 24-hour monitoring power over their business seven days a week.

The PLDT Watcher includes a motion detector fitted to up to three windows on-site. When activated, these motion detectors prime the system to auto-record video images and even e-mail snapshots.

The PLDT Watcher IP Cam also has a 1/4” Super CMOS sensor, 640 x 480 lens: 4.0 mm, up to 30FPS; a built-in microphone; MPEG4 compression; and 802.11 b/g WiFi that’s 3GP compliant.

Hefty savings

Small or medium manufacturers can now keep a literal eye on their production line or most especially on their inventory warehouses where most losses occur. It’s a sad fact but direct or employee-assisted pilferage or theft of stocks still plagues these businesses. If it’s not actual finished products, separate components can suffer the same fate.

During its test run, a senior businessman was able to get a live feed of the construction site of a project he was commissioned to accomplish on a certain deadline. Viewing the worksite, he saw that no workmen or supervisor was on site, despite the fact that they had agreed on a 24-hour workshift. Thanks to the PLDT Watcher, he was able to immediately talk to the supervisor and workers, thus saving himself a hefty amount that could have been lost.

This is just one example of a business that could have lost millions of pesos because of inefficiency, and more could be lost every day because of simple undetected theft, pilferage or employees who are slacking off from work.

“We have data showing that the incidence of pilferage is particularly high during the Christmas season,” said Luna-Abelarde. “With Watcher, we hope to curb incidents such as this. Hopefully, throughout the year.”

The PLDT Watcher banks on the telecommunications giant’s trusted network so users can be given assurance of efficiency and promptness. Its entire system can be deployed rapidly, using proven existing hardware and software.
