Sybase bares new ASE Cluster

Sybase Inc. recently announced the availability of the latest Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) Cluster Edition in the Philippines.

Jeff Tallman and Charles Yeun of the Sybase Evangelism Team recently featured the Virtualized Resource Management (VRM) technology available in Sybase ASE Cluster Edition in an event that also included focus group discussions with Sybase’s major Philippine customers such as Globe Telecom.

Globe Telecom has tapped the Sybase ASE for its billing systems for several years now. The new program has simplified the process of loading airtime value onto a subscriber’s mobile phone.

The Sybase ASE powers the system, moving pesos from retailer wallets to subscriber wallets and updating accounts as minutes are used and text messages are sent. AutoLoadMAX is a J2SE application residing on an HP-UX Superdome system running ASE.

The Sybase ASE Cluster Edition enables optimum service levels for system failures, peak loads and downtime for planned maintenance; maximizes resource utilization by combining database workloads running from underutilized hardware onto a smaller number of machines and implements a data grid system by reducing infrastructure cost by low-cost servers that still deliver the same service levels replacing expensive, high-end hardware.
