The ‘Complete Jose Rizal’ online at Filipiniana.net
Filipiniana.net, in cooperation with the National Historical Institute (NHI), has launched the Complete Jose Rizal online at http://www.filipiniana.net/rizaliana.jsp.
Conceived in time for the national hero’s 147th birthday, the Complete Jose Rizal compiles the complete bibliography of all of Rizal’s works and correspondences, including full-text versions of Rizal’s novels, poems, and essays.
Central to this voluminous collection are 954 letters written by and to Rizal, who was a prolific and eloquent correspondent.
The Complete Jose Rizal also contains an image gallery showcasing over 100 photographs of Rizal and the people closest to him, his artworks, and the places he visited during his travels.
Since Republic Act 1425 mandating the inclusion of the study of Rizal’s life and works in school curricula was passed in 1956, hundreds of books have been produced about the national hero.
As a result, Filipinos believe that they know everything that there is to be known about Rizal, when what they are presented with are bits and pieces of a very complex picture. With the Complete Jose Rizal, the NHI and Filipiniana.net deliver the man and the hero in equal measure.
The public may access the full-text versions of Rizal’s works in the original Spanish, along with their English and Filipino translations, and make their own judgments.
The Complete Jose Rizal is part of the Vibal Foundation’s commitment to free learning for all through digital platforms, including Filipiniana.net, a digital library of Philippine studies resources; WikiPilipinas.org, a reference guide on the Philippines; and E-turo.org, the country’s first and biggest online repository of teaching and learning tools.
