Acer to launch ‘White Angel’

Acer, the world’s No. 4 PC vendor, is scheduled to launch here soon its newest dual-core notebook that created a lot of good buzz during its debut in Taiwan early this month.

The Acer TravelMate 3020 features the Intel Core Duo processor and a 12.1-inch TFT LCD display. It sports a white chassis and a very slim profile, which led Acer to give it the moniker "White Angel."

Notebooks with a slim A4-size form factor appeal highly to end-users who value portability. Make their chassis or housing white and they become even more appealing to female consumers.

Lightweight at 1.5kg, the White Angel, however, is heavy with features for highly mobile users.

For communications, the new TravelMate 3020 line has top-of-the-class tools that support Voice and Video over Internet Protocol (VVoIP) for face-to-face online meetings via a built-in, 1.3-megapixel Acer OrbiCam CMOS camera and optional Acer Bluetooth VoIP phone.

In addition, the White Angel runs on Acer SignalUp wireless technology, and on Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, the tri-mode 802.11a/b/g connectivity solu—tion for comprehensive network connection at public hot spots or office WLANs (wide local area networks).

"It is a very exciting new product. It’s trendy in its pearl white color and powerful because it’s loaded with all the good features such as the Webcam, Bluetooth and VoIP phone, to name a few," said Manuel Wong, general manager of Acer Philippines.

For expan—dability, the White Angel can be easily transformed from mobile to full-function desktop PC using the Acer ezDock, a one-plug docking solution with 24 ports and connectors.

This little mean machine also has an external DVD-Super Multi double-layer optical drive, a five-in-one card rea—der, and other vital I/O ports.

For security, the White Angel is guarded by Acer GraviSense, Acer Anti-Theft, and Acer eRecovery Management. Acer GraviSense parks drive heads if a sudden change in motion is sensed in order to protect data.

The Acer Anti-Theft prevents notebook theft by sounding an alarm and locking down the system’s operating system. The Acer eRecovery Management restores the operating system or backs up the current system profile.

The launch of White Angel simply shows Acer’s flair for beautiful PC designs. After all, it’s the company that gave the market the industrial yet classy-looking Acer Ferrari notebooks and some of today’s most stylishly and practically designed tablet PCs. And while the White Angel is not the first white notebook in the market, its advanced and easy-to-use features accentuate its total look.

The White Angel model to be sold locally is the TravelMate 3022 WTMi which, like the TravelMate 3020 mother unit, will also have a high-speed Serial ATA hard drive (up to 120 GB) and up to 4 GB of dual-channel DDR2 memory and all the other features. The unit’s suggested retail price starts at P110,000.

Acer expects to get more market share this year from sales of its 12.1-inch models and dual-core notebooks.
