Samsung Cyber Games advocates a healthy games culture

As gamers from all over the country spring into competitive mode for World Cyber Games 2005, Samsung, global sponsor of the event, highlights "the promotion of a healthy games culture."
"Gaming is a new cultural genre that enjoys a growing popularity as a preferred form of digital entertainment among young people," says Hyuck Jae Shim, Samsung Philippines president and CEO.
"Samsung is committed to upholding a healthy digital culture. Gaming has beneficial effects because it introduces young people to technology in a fun and enjoyable way. If this interest is harnessed responsibly, then we can work on sustaining and building their skills in technology whether it is through sports, digital entertainment or other scientific disciplines," Hyuck adds.
The World Cyber Games (WCG) is touted as the Olympics of electronic gaming. It is the worlds first "Cyber Gaming Festival" designed to build a cyber culture based on goodwill and camaraderie.
Players who compete bearing their countrys colors are called "e-sportsmen." As the Olympics embodies harmony and peace by bringing together the worlds athletes every four years, the WCG seeks to achieve the same effect in electronic gaming every year.
Samsung has taken a pioneering role in supporting a new "games culture" as it recognizes the WCG as the most effective channel to communicate with the worlds youth.
The company has participated in the WCG as a worldwide sponsor for the last five years. In the Philippines, Samsung Philippines is the leading supporter of the Philippine preliminaries, billed as the "Samsung Cyber Games."
Registration for the Samsung Cyber Games 2005 is ongoing at various Internet cafés nationwide until July 31. To download registration forms and contest rules, log on to http://www.samsungcybergames.ph.
