Broadband Phils. enhances network for better quality

-
Internet firm Broadband Phils. has deployed Cisco equipment in its "eBuildings" to cope with the increasing bandwidth requirements of its customers.

"There is now a growing demand for more broadband capacity as our client businesses grow," said Jose Locsin, Broadband vice president and chief technology officer.

Broadband Phils. has upgraded its last-mile network of "eBuildings" and expanded Internet backbone capacity with the installation of a Cisco 12000 Gigabit switched router as its core gateway switch to the Internet.

With over 20,000 systems deployed globally, the Cisco 12000 is the premier Internet routing platform for carrier-grade, service-provider backbone and high-speed edge applications.

The Cisco 12000 Series is a platform that integrates technologies specifically optimized for both IP backbone and high-speed edge applications.

"IP technologies are the de facto platform for today’s corporate data networks, Web-based services and e-commerce applications, and we built an end-to-end IP network that was designed for broadband services from the start," said Jose de Venecia III, chairman and chief executive officer of Broadband Phils.

He noted that with the upgrade, the Internet company is eliminating potential congestion points, further ensuring reliability across its entire network.

According to De Venecia, the technology used is not meant to disparage other existing legacy networks. He believes this is the way to deliver a true broadband service that is responsive to the needs of today’s business customer.

Also, with the Cisco 3600 newly installed in its "eBuildings," Broadband Phils. will be able to meet and maintain its customers’ quality-of-service expectations.

"It will enable us to do efficient traffic shaping suited to the needs of our subscribers," De Venecia said.
