A haven for online sellers
January 30, 2001 | 12:00am
Internet-age entrepreneurs have found a selling haven in Surfingbananas.com, a regional auction and classifieds site that boasts a network of 165,000 members and 81,000 listings from consumer goods, gadgets to real estate and even vehicles.
The site provides sellers a venue to post their items in the most efficient, convenient and cost-effective manner. Small- to medium-scale enterprises need not worry about the high cost of store space rentals, hiring sales personnel, and limited selling time. Entrepreneurs can sell their wares in the comfort of their own homes and enjoy the luxury of free advertising.
"Selling has never been so easy," says Civil Engineering graduate Eugene Keng, an online entrepreneur who sells cellular phones on Surfingbananas.com. Having posted only recently, Keng has already sold more than 10 phones to date.
Sellers also receive the maximum price for their goods. Local physician Mark Anthony de Lusong says, "Selling via bidding style at Surfingbananas gives me increased profits. If someone really wants your item, he’ll pay a lot to have it and will try to outbid others just to get it."
Best of all, selling online is still for free! Surfingbananas continues to offer this service at no cost. Architect-online seller Melissa Enriquez raves, "There are no charges for posting your items here." Only a free sign-up membership is needed to avail yourself of seller benefits enjoyed by many online entrepreneurs throughout the region.
