USC, DBTC kick-start title defense on high note in CESAFI football
CEBU, Philippines — The defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) Golden Booters and the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves got off to flying starts in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 football tournament on Sunday, October 6, at the Cebu City Sports Center.
In the college division, USC kicked off its title retention bid with a 2-0 shutout of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons.
John Cyril Sinoy and Nino Gianpaolo Pastrana powered the Carolinians to victory after drilling in goals at the 28th and 85th minutes, respectively.
In the other collegiate duel, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Kicking Panthers beat the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Kicking Jaguars, 1-0.
John Rey Arino sank the game-clincher for the Kicking Panthers at the 38th minute.
In high school play, the Don Bosco Greywolves opened their defense with a 2-0 drubbing of USC-Basic Education Department (BED).
Czar Robert Daanoy broke the ice of the match for the Bosconians at the 30th minute before his teammate Mark Anthony Talingting found the back of the net at the 44th.
In other result, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles blanked USJ-R, 2-0, behind back-to-back goals of Kian Juaquine Pimentel and Zidane Cañete at the 21st and 25th minute. — (FREEMAN)
