Marian Rivera Cinemalaya movie 'Balota' getting wide release
MANILA, Philippines — Kip Oebanda's Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2024 entry "Balota," starring Marian Rivera, will get a wide release in Philippine cinemas.
Production company GMA Pictures and the Cinemalaya Film Festival both confirmed "Balota" would open in cinemas nationwide "due to insistent public demand."
A new cut of the movie will be hitting theaters around the country beginning October 16.
Marian was the joint-winner of the Best Actress award for her role in "Balota," shared with Gabby Padilla of "Kono Basho."
"Balota" sees a tight mayoral election between a land-grabbing tycoon and a former actor, resulting in a violent uproar in a small town.
A teacher serving in the elections, played by Marian, runs into the wilderness with the ballot box containing the last copy of the election results.
Co-starring with Marian are Gardo Versoza, Will Ashley, Sassa Gurl, Esnyr Ranollo, Donna Cariaga, Royce Cabrera, Raheel Bhyria, Nico Antonio, Joel Saracho, Sue Prado, and Mae Paner.
Coincidentally, the release of "Balota" will be a week after the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2025 elections.
