Mighty, Jumbo try to arrange PCBL title showdown
MANILA, Philippines – Mighty Sports and Jumbo Plastic try to arrange a finals showdown as they seek a repeat over their respective rivals in the semifinal round of the PCBL Chairman’s Cup at the Marikina Sports Center today.
The top seeded Mighty Sports take on the depleted Euro-Med side in the 5 p.m. opener while Jumbo battles Sta. Lucia Realty at 7 p.m.
Mighty Sports blasted Euro-Med, 99-84, while Jumbo repulsed Sta. Lucia in overtime, 94-89, in the opener of their respective best-of-three series with a repeat setting up a duel for the crown between the league’s top teams.
Meanwhile, Euro-Med will be without head coach Yong Garcia and import Ola Adeogun, who were both suspended by commissioner Joel Banal for separate infractions in Game One.
Garcia was ejected in the second period for continuous complaining and using profane language against a game official while Adeogun was also slapped a technical foul, his second offense, and for disrespecting an official.
On top of the one game suspension, both Garcia and Adeogun were also fined P2,000 each.
Banal added that he will circulate a memo to all the teams on the incident involving Adeogun and Mighty Sports forward Kevin Ferrer.
The former San Beda star claimed Ferrer cursed him during the postgame handshakes, forcing him to hit the former University of Santo Tomas ace in the face.
