British Council offers PhD scholarship, research grants on science
MANILA, Philippines – The British Council is accepting applications for the Newton PhD Program and Institutional Links for development and research.
Working through the Newton Agham Program, the British Council and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) offer the jointly funded Newton PhD Program – full-time scholarships for Filipino researchers at a UK higher education institution from January 2017 until April 2020.
Deadline for application is on
June 27, 2016.
The aim of the Newton PhD Program is to facilitate the capacity building of individuals, and the building of sustainable, longlasting links between the UK and the Philippines. It is also aimed at providing opportunities for
international training and development at the doctoral level, as well as supporting the production of highly trained researchers in the Philippines with international experience.
The program is open to Filipino citizens who must be in the first five years of their research career, have obtained a master’s degree in a related field and must be a faculty or staff member of a Philippine higher education institute (HEI).
Also part of the Newton Agham Program is the Newton Institutional Links, which provides grants for the development of research and innovation collaborations between the UK and the Philippines. The research facilitated by these grants tackles local development needs and challenges such as extreme weather conditions, access to affordable health care, food and energy security.
Application forms and the guidance for applications are available for download at the British Council website (www. britishcouncil.ph/programmes/ newton-fund).
