WWF launches Earth Hour for cities

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The World Wide Fund for Nature launches today the global Earth Hour City Challenge in the Philippines.

Joel Palma, president and CEO of WWF Philippines; Ria Apostol-Lambino, WWF-Philippines vice president for sustainable production and market engagement; and lawyer Angela Consuelo Ibay of Climate Change and Energy are expected to lead the event at 11 a.m. at Lancaster Hotel Manila, Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City.

EHCC or Earth Hour City Challenge was designed to celebrate cities and towns that are taking innovative actions toward creating a greener, cleaner and more sustainable city to live in, while inspiring other cities to do the same. Its main goal is to highlight and reward city governments that are making substantial long-term efforts to combat climate change.

This marks the first time for the Philippines to join the challenge as LGUs increase initiatives to address climate change.
