The Mind Museum gets LEED Gold

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City has achieved LEED certification to the gold level.

Established by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED or Leadership in Environment and Energy Design is an internationally recognized program for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings.

The Mind Museum earned the LEED Gold certification for its environment-friendly features such as conserving water and energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, improving indoor air quality, and the setting up of a materials recovery facility, among others.

The main supplies used for constructing the two-level establishment, like steel, have high recyclable content.

“Green buildings” around the world are known to enjoy a number of benefits, including lowering their operating costs and increasing their asset value, proving that it makes good economic sense to build “green.”

“Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems. The Mind Museum efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chairman of USGBC.

LEED professionals from Langdon and Seah guided the project team of Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc. (BAFI) in designing and building The Mind Museum according to “green” requirements.

The project team was composed of BAFI, the museum’s architectural firm, Lor Calma & Partners led by Ed Calma, Ayala Land Inc. experts, and consultants for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural design.

The result is a building that speaks of technology and design being responsive to the role of built-up space in environmental stewardship.

The Mind Museum, the landmark project of BAFI, opened to the public in March 2012 and has so far accommodated about 300,000 visitors.
